Mission

The mission of the After-School All-Stars Las Vegas is to provide free comprehensive out-of-school programs that keep children safe and help them achieve in school and life.

The Purpose

Our purpose is to provide at-risk youth the opportunity to participate in sports, educational, cultural and community enrichment programs; to build confidence and self-esteem; to encourage youth to say ‘no’ to gangs, drugs, and violence, and ‘yes’ to hope, learning and life.

About the Organization

After-School All-Stars was officially organized in the Las Vegas valley in 2003, after acquiring and broadening the services offered by the original organization, the Greater Las Vegas Inner-City Games, which was founded in 1995 by Elaine Wynn. Since inception, the organization has served more than 100,000 youth locally.
Today, the organization provides dozens of free academic, athletic and cultural after-school programs to more than 6,000 youth at 15 at-risk schools throughout Clark County School District. ASAS nationally serves 73,000 youth in 19 cities each year.

The Need

Current research indicates that 70% of youth violence, drug and alcohol use, gang activity and teen pregnancy occur during the out-of-school hours between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Law enforcement agencies nationwide call this the “danger zone.” During this time, more than 15 million youth are left unsupervised.

Programs

Our programs are based on 3 pillars which include Academics, Enrichment and Health & Fitness. Programs vary slightly at each school based on need. Popular programs include homework help, dance, soccer, basketball, outdoor education, broadcasting, mariachi, cultural arts – and more.
