After-School All-Stars Announces New Donations

AFTER-SCHOOL ALL-STARS LAS VEGAS ANNOUNCES NEW DONATIONS

Las Vegas – After-School All-Stars Las Vegas (ASAS) is pleased to announce several recent donations that make it possible for the organization to provide free, comprehensive after-school academic and enrichment programs for more than 5,500 underprivileged students in 13 different Clark County School District elementary and middle schools.

  • Coca-Cola North America: $20,000
  • Mr. Jesse Waits: $10,000
  • Cashman Family Foundation: $5,000

“For all students, especially those who are unsupervised, the hours immediately following school are critical,” said Ranna Daud, After-School All-Stars Las Vegas executive director. “We are so grateful for the generosity of our local companies and citizens. These donations help ensure that students are safe as they learn and grow through positive and constructive activities each day after school.”

Three hours a day after school can change a child’s life. In America today, 11.3 million children are alone and unsupervised after school.  In Nevada, the number stands at nearly 100,000, and that’s where After-School All-Stars comes in. After-School All-Stars works to encourage students to be successful in school and in life. When surveyed, 97% of Clark County School District teachers at schools with ASAS programs reported that students learned new skills in the ASAS program, 91% reported that ASAS students had a positive attitude about school, and 92% of teachers responded that ASAS students were more confident.  Among the ASAS students themselves, 91% reported trying harder in Math and English because they participated in the ASAS program and 87% felt more confident in their ability to get a good job. When ASAS works with students for several years over the course of their elementary and middle schools years, there is a higher likelihood they will graduate and succeed.
